Finalist, Edgar Allan Poe Award Finalist, Arthur Miller Institute Prize Simon Baatz, born in London and educated at the University of York and Imperial College London, first moved to the United States to study the history of science at the University of Pennsylvania. He taught American Studies at universities in Britain before taking up a research position in the history of medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2006 he moved to New York to teach American legal history at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a constituent college of the City University of New York. Cinemttr LLC, a film and television production company based in Miami, has signed an option agreement for his most recent book, The Girl on the Velvet Swing (Little, Brown, 2018). During 2021--2022 he received an appointment as Fellow-in-Residence at the Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford. He is currently the convenor of the University Seminar on Law and Politics at Columbia University.
